Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about DTF printing, artwork, gangsheets, and more — answered by the Monkey Transfers team.
Gangsheets
A gangsheet is a single sheet of DTF (Direct-To-Film) printing film that contains multiple designs arranged together Instead of printing each design on its own sheet, you gang (group) them all on one large sheet to maximise the use of the print area and reduce cost.
At Monkey Transfers, our sheets are 58cm × 100cm — giving you plenty of room to pack in logos, full-size prints, small labels, and more. You send us your laid-out artwork file, we print it, and you press each design onto your garments individually.
Gangsheets are ideal for:
- Decorators who need multiple different designs in one run
- Businesses running small batches of custom garments
- Anyone who wants to maximise their print budget by filling every centimetre
Artwork & Files
We only accept PDF or PNG files — no other formats will be accepted. Here's exactly what we need:
- Format: PDF or PNG only (no JPEG, AI, PSD, SVG, etc.)
- Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI at the full, intended print size
- Background: Transparent — not white (a white background will print as white ink)
- Scale: Set up at 1:1 full print size — not scaled down
- Colour mode: RGB
- Minimum line width: 1mm — finer details may not reproduce
- Minimum text size: 6pt at the intended print size
If you're unsure how to prepare your file, our team can help — see our Artwork Creation Service or get in touch.
Printing
Yes! Our 8-colour printing system (CMYK + Light Cyan, Light Magenta, Orange, and Green) handles gradients beautifully. You'll get smooth, natural-looking colour transitions across your designs.
However, there is one important limitation to be aware of:
- Gradients fading to transparent will print with a hard edge — not a soft fade. This is because DTF transfers require a white ink underbase layer, which creates a defined edge where transparency begins.
- To avoid this, design your artwork with a defined, solid edge rather than a fade to nothing.
- Solid-to-solid colour gradients (e.g. orange to yellow, blue to purple) print perfectly.
If you have questions about a specific design, feel free to contact us before placing your order.
Yes, we can print photographic images. Our 8-colour system produces detailed, accurate photographic prints — including skin tones, shadows, fine detail, and complex colour blends.
For the best photo print results:
- Supply your photo as a PNG at 300 DPI or higher at the intended print size
- Remove the background before submitting — the photo must have a transparent background, not white or solid colour
- Avoid heavily compressed JPEG files — these create compression artefacts that are visible in the final print
- Low-resolution photos (under 300 DPI at print size) will appear blurry or pixelated — we will not be responsible for this if the file submitted is low resolution
